Course Description

Build on the knowledge you gained as an EMT-B while you learn the principles and practices of patient assessment, the function of human body systems, advanced airway management and ventilation, intravenous access, pharmacology, and medication administration. In this course, you will have the opportunity to explore the role and legal considerations of advanced pre-hospital care. There is a potential for exposure to hazardous materials and bloodborne pathogens. Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry patients out of buildings and down steps. Students are required to practice on one another in skills lab. You must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. On the first day of class, you must present a current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card, and provide documentation of a current Maryland EMT-B card with one year (or 150 calls) experience as an EMT-B or a waiver from the program specialist.
