Course Description

This Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course, developed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and the Mental Health Association of MD, teaches you how to assist and support others who may be experiencing a mental health or substance abuse challenge. Mental Health First Aid is an early-intervention, public education program. It teaches adults how to recognize the signs and symptoms that suggest a potential mental health challenge, how to listen non-judgmentally and give reassurance to a person who may be experiencing a mental health challenge, and how to refer a person to appropriate professional support and services.
This course is beneficial for those 18 years and up including social workers, police, faith and non-faith-based support groups, and anyone wanting to assist family, friends, neighbors and coworkers.

Adult Mental Health First Aid consists of 2 hours of self-paced content followed by 5.5 hours of instructor-led training. Passing an exam upon completion allows you to become a Certified Mental Health First Aider. Technical standards apply. Senior adult and disabled retiree tuition waivers apply. Transcript available.
