Course Description

This course builds upon Arc Welding Fundamentals and provides advanced instruction in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Students will perform fillet and groove welds in multiple positions including horizontal and vertical on carbon steel. Emphasis is placed on reading AWS welding symbols, adjusting machine parameters, joint preparation, and weld testing alignment with AWS D1.1 structural welding codes. This course prepares students for in-house performance for a qualification document recognized by AWS. 

Prerequisites

Students must successfully complete IA 1237 Arc Welding Fundamentals before starting Intermediate Welding.
